Simple Syrup with Variations
Ingredients
1 cup
sugar
1 cup
water
- additional ingredients of your choice (see Simple Syrup Variations below), optional
Directions
Simple Syrup:
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium-high heat; bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.
- Remove from heat; cool for 30 min.
- Store in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 5 days.
Simple Syrup Variations:
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium-high heat; bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.
- When sugar is dissolved, add the ingredient of your choice to the saucepan: 4 oz. peeled, thinly sliced ginger (for Ginger Simply Syrup), ½ oz. fresh rosemary (for Rosemary Simple Syrup) or ½ oz. fresh thyme stems (for Thyme Simple Syrup).
- Bring to a simmer. Remove from heat; let steep for 30 min. Strain syrup (discard ginger or herbs); store in the refrigerator, covered, until ready to use.
Tasty Tip:
- Use simple syrup to make cocktails or to sweetened lemonade, iced tea, hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
