Italian French Toast
Ingredients

eggs
1 ½ cups
whole milk
1 tbsp.
finely minced fresh thyme, plus more for garnish, if desired
¼ tsp.
hot sauce
1 loaf
Kowalski's Artisan Challah Bread, sliced ¾" thick
1 tbsp.
Kowalski's Unsalted Butter, plus more as needed
1 tbsp.
Kowalski's Extra Virgin Olive Oil, plus more as needed
¾ cup
freshly grated Grana Padano cheese (from the Specialty Cheese Department), plus more for serving
- Kowalski's Pasta Sauce (your choice of flavor), warmed, to taste
Directions
- In a 9x13" glass baking dish, whisk together eggs, milk, thyme and hot sauce.
- Working in batches, soak bread in egg mixture for 1 ½ min., turning once.
- Melt 1 tbsp. butter in 1 tbsp. oil on a nonstick griddle over medium heat; use a wadded paper towel to evenly coat griddle with melted butter mixture.
- Just before cooking, sprinkle one side of each piece of soaked bread with cheese; cook several slices at a time on the hot griddle, cheese side down, until dark golden-brown (2-3 min. per side), flipping once. Add more butter and oil between batches as needed.
- Serve with warm sauce and additional cheese.
