Women of Wine: Susie Bynum

Winemaker Susie Bynum Winemaker Susie Bynum

Susie Bynum, a third-generation wine industry professional, is carrying on her father's legacy, famed Russian River pioneer Davis Bynum. From her early childhood picking grapes in her grandfather's vineyard in St. Helena, Susie has worked closely with her dad and played an integral part in bringing the Davis Bynum brand to the level of respected notoriety it has come to enjoy.

Though an essential part of building the family brand, her chops as a winemaker are on full display in her own small-production Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines under her own label, Susie Bynum Wines. Sourcing from small, sustainable growers in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast, the wines straddle the fine line between opulence and balance. They offer immediate drinkability but also the layered complexity usually reserved for more expensive bottlings. The wines are as limited as they are delicious. Truly handcrafted, only 500-600 cases of each are made every vintage.
