Women of Wine: Mary Taylor

Mary Taylor, founder of Mary Taylor Wine Mary Taylor, founder of Mary Taylor Wine

Mary Taylor is a New York-based winemaker and importer whose ambitious goal is to bring the authentic village wines of Europe to average American wine drinkers. This is no small task, considering that all the unfamiliar names and terminology on the labels of these wines usually send most consumers running straight for the nearest bottle of California Cabernet or New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

Taylor buys the grapes, juice or fermented wines directly from growers to produce the wines in her finished bottles. Her recognizable label is her calling card and the solution to the confusion some labels inspire. It catches the eye not with flashiness but with its clean, straightforward, geographically focused appeal. The design for Taylor’s “White Label” series tells a simple story: the wine inside is an equally straightforward, authentic example of a classic European wine. The full Mary Taylor lineup features over 40 different wines from France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. As affordable as they are delicious, we admire her wines for their easy-drinking style, spot-on flavors and true sense of place.
