Good Question:
What's the difference between a liqueur and liquor?
Basically, sugar. Both are distilled alcoholic beverages, but a liqueur is sweetened and usually flavored. Liquors (also called spirits), like rum, gin and whiskey, are used as the base for liqueurs. (Rum, for example, is often used as the base of coffee liqueur. Brandy is commonly used to make orange liqueur.) Liqueurs that are more desserty are sometimes referred to as cordials.
Selection and availability of products and ingredients vary by market.
