Kowalski's ACS Certified Cheese Specialist Kelsey Pass took on the challenge of pairing our new Signature Kettle Chips with treasures from her Specialty Cheese Case. As if potato chips weren't the perfect snack already, she's partnered each flavor of our newest salty snack with an artisan cheese to bring out the best in each. She weighs in on her choices below.
Sea Salt Chips with Ossau-Iraty
"Ossau-Iraty is a sheep's milk cheese from the Pyrenees Mountains. Sheep's milk has more fat than any other type of milk, which adds to its richness. The simple, crisp chip works so well in cutting through the fat, making for a great contrast, and the sea salt brings out even more flavor in the cheese."
Sour Cream & Onion Chips with Fontina Fontal
"I was shocked! This is amazing! The onion chip brings out the best of this gooey melter from Italy. Normally a rich buttery highlight for mushrooms and sweet potatoes, the onion chips give this a new savory complexity I wasn't expecting."
BBQ Chips with Mitica's The Smokin' Goat
"This lightly smoked semi-soft cheese from the Canary Islands perfectly balances the sweetness of the chips. The goat's milk, I think, was the key. It stood up to the bold flavor of the chips and didn't get lost. My husband suggested we up the decadence of this pairing by topping a Kowalski's Certified Akaushi Burger with this cheese and crushing the potato chips on top."
Salt & Vinegar Chips with Wiebe Dairy's Cottonwood River Cheddar
"Made with raw milk, this savory and sweet aged Cheddar keeps changing as you eat it. What's cool is that all those expanding flavors play with the vinegar, making it an amazing party in your mouth."
